Antique hair brush from England, produced during WWI.
The hair brush is 200 years-old. Sterling silver brush made from real animal bristle is a common tool among the nobles. It was used for hair smoothening and hair style creation.
Not until the 60s, washing hair daily is never a common habit of people. It has never been considered necessary. Inside the cosmetic box of the rich women, there was always a set of hair comb and brush. Hair brush of this style was designed for removing scalps and dirts in the hair. While combing the hair, natural grease of the hair will be spreadt out evenly along the hair, thus protecting the hair with a silky shine.
After time, the sterling silver surface has been oxidized. The silver hallmarks are therefore more visible. The unusual dents on the back are something unique. It maybe due to an alternative usage other than hair-brushing by the previous owner.
